Consultation on Tree Felling
Published: 04 August 2025
PORTANT NOTICE: Each year, the Parish Council in Cranleigh invests in an independent Arboricultural inspection of all its trees for their amenity and health and safety of visitors, contractors and staff at our open spaces, recreation grounds, allotments and cemetery.
Sadly, two trees in the Bruce McKenzie Field are showing signs of decline:
• Tree 247 is in the entrance to the Bruce McKenzie Field in a highly accessed public area. It has reduced crown vitality and is likely to decline further. The arboriculturalist has recommended to either fell or monolith the tree. The Parish Council is currently having a bat roost survey to ensure there are no bats in the tree before it is felled outside of the bird nesting season. The Council will re-plant with a native species tree.
• Tree 847 is halfway along the Bruce McKenzie Field and oversails public footpath 393 and the Knowle Park car park. Sadly, this tree is also in poor condition with upper canopy decline and has damaged buttress roots with decay evident. The tree has been fenced off on the advice of the arboriculturalist to keep members of the public away from under the drip line of the tree. The Parish Council is currently having a bat roost survey to ensure there are no bats in the tree before it is felled outside of the bird nesting season. The Council will re-plant with a native species tree.
If you have any comments about this proposed tree felling please send your comments to the Parish Council to be considered at their meeting on Thursday 18 September 2025.
